Black's Beach
One of the nation's iconic nude beaches, San Diego's majestically situated Black's Beach is also a favorite hangout of gay men and lesbians - clothed, partially clothed, scantilly clothed, unclothed, and all permutations thereof. This 2-miles stretch of soft sand lies at the base of 300-foot cliffs near University of California-San Diego, just north of La Jolla and about a 15- to 20-minute drive north of downtown San Diego.
Puerto Vallarta Gay Beach
Adjacent to the popular Zona Romantica neighborhood of old Puerto Vallarta, an area rife with gay-friendly hotels, restaurants, and bars, you'll find gay-popular Los Muertos Beach, just outside the Blue Oceans gay resort. It's pretty easy to find - just look for the shirtless, muscle-bound men and a smaller number of lesbians, sunbathing along the section of blue chairs as well as a neighboring strip of green chairs, which are outside the Ritmos Beach Restuarant.

Blue Store
Another of Chelsea's rather garish sex-toy and porn stores, the Blue Store (206 8th Ave.) has garnered its share of bad press since it opened in 2003, first stirring the ire of neighbors who complained about its relentless blue-neon facade and the neighborhood's seeming excess of such establishments. Then in 2005 cops shuttered the place for a bit following a prostitution sting. The store has cleaned up its act some and is still a viable source of gay erotica, lube, and such.

Escape Club Prague - gay strippers Prague - gay dancers Prague - Club Escape Prague - male escorts prague - gay hustlers prague - gay prague clubs
And you thought all those fresh-faced, lithe, shirtless guys were talking to you simply because you're irresistibly fascinating? Well, this may be true, but if you find yourself showered with attention during your visit to Prague's Escape Club, in Nove Mesto just a short walk from Wenceslas Square, consider that many - if not most - of the man-boy creatures in this saucy basement nightclub are looking to initiate business relations with you.
The Unicorn
The long-running Unicorn (277 W. 22nd St., 212-924-2921) gay porn palace, located conveniently beside Barracuda gay bar and just around the corner from newer porn shops like Blue Store, Rainbow Station, and Pride NYC. The Unicorn has long been known for its significant selection of blue movies as well as its private video booths. It's a bit sleazier in feel than its 8th Avenue neighbors, which can be good or bad depending on your outlook.

UnderU4Men Inside
Part of the reason downtown Portland's gay-owned underwear and swimwear shop UnderU4Men has developed such a loyal following is its lively and fun fashion-model shows (Friday nights at 7 pm and Saturdays at 2 pm). Look just over the Papi-clad half-mannequin in this photo and you'll see a couple of the store's hunky cat-walkers in the background, below the C-IN2 sign. UnderU4Men opened a second shop in the suburbs, at Bridgeport Village, in summer 2007.

You can finish all this with a hot-stone treatment or mud wrap in the spa, or by having lunch in the spa's open-air restaurant overlooking the pool and, beyond that, the lush rain forest.

Friends Bar Prague - Gay Bars Old Town Prague - Gay Prague Nightlife photos - Friends Gay Club Prague - prague gay bars pictures - stare mesto gay
A reliably friendly, long-running, centrally located spot in the heart of Old Town (Stare Mesto) Prague, Friends is a nice-size gay lounge with a smallish dance floor, located (as sooo many Prague gay bars) through a nondescript doorway and in a basement. Fun music videos play on the wall, a wide variety of drinks are served (wines, beers, liquor, mixed drinks), and there are different types of seating - cozy sofas, cocktail tables, a long bar-counter.

Sunset Strip West Hollywood
West Hollywood's Sunset Strip is lined with posh, gay-friendly shops, restaurants, and hotels (such as the swank Chateau Marmont), and backed by the scenic Hollywood Hills. There's less of a gay scene along Sunset Boulevard than there is to the south on Santa Monica Boulevard, but this is a great area for celebrity-spotting.

Steamworks Chicago - Steamworks gay bathhouse - Chicago gay bath houses - Steamworks Halsted Street - cruising for sex in Chicago - gay gyms Halsted
Part of a franchise of well-regarded, well-kept bathhouses with branches in Berkeley, Seattle, and Toronto, Steamworks Chicago has a handy location along Halsted Street, steps from more than a dozen gay bars in the neighborhood. This helps account for the facility's staggering popularity late on weekend evenings, after most clubs let out, and when plenty of cruisy guys on the make are still out in search of company for the night.
UnderU4Men Storefront
How many underwear shops do you know of that hold gay fashion parties with briefs-clad models? A festive and slightly cheeky shop on Southwest Broadway, a short walk from the Stark Street gay-bar strip, gay-owned UnderU4Men has become legendary for its Friday night fashion shows (at 7 pm), featuring hunky boys modeling nothing but Ginch Gonch and AussieBum delicates. The store carries more than 30 brands of underwear and is a must if you have a boxer-briefs or g-strings fetish.
Downtown Skyline
Downtown Portland, which is set along the west side of the river and backed by leafy Washington Park and Forest Park, has a relatively compact skyline. It's home to most of the city's hipper hotels, and it's also where you'll find much of Portland's gay nightlife (particularly in Old Town and along Stark Street). This photo was taken from the rooftop garden of the fab East Burnside restaurant, Rocket.
Block Island
Block Island, the genial and wonderfully pristine land mass off the coast of Rhode Island, has been a wonderful spot for a low-keyed yet sophisticated beach vacation for generations. There's virtually no gay following here, even compared with the relatively mainstream Martha's Vineyard, but this is a progressive, liberal-minded community that's very welcoming toward gay and lesbian visitors nonetheless - perfect if you're seeking peace and quiet, stunning maritime vistas, and secluded beaches.

A review of The Bent Guide to Amsterdam, a gay and lesbian guidebook on the city of Amsterdam.
Yellow Monkey
A long-running guest house and motel (it opened in 1972), the Yellow Monkey caters to a mixed gay/straight clientele and is prized chiefly for its stellar locale - the 50-room property is along U.S. 1, steps from the beach and a short walk to village restaurants and nightlife. Rooms are done with somewhat frilly Victorian-inspired decor and, at least in some cases, could stand some updating, but overall this is a solid option. The inn is closed mid-November through mid-April.
Toronto Gay Pride

Barcelonetta Beach
One of a few excellent gay beaches in the bustling and sophisticated Spanish city of Barcelona, the beach at Barceloneta can be easily walked to from the Barceloneta metro stop, or by walking south (heading to the right) from the Olympic Port/Marina Village area. You can also take an aerial tram to the beach from Parc de Montjuic. The beachfront here is typically packed with hot guys and women, and there are several lively cafes and mainstream though gay-friendly bars along the beachfront here.
The Beach Manuel Antonio
The beach beside Manuel Antonio National Park.
Gay Ogunquit - Ogunquit Beaches - gay beaches - Coastal Maine beach photos - Ogunquit shore - gay Ogunquit photos - Ogunquit beach pictures
Ogunquit is fringed by more than 3 miles of sandy shoreline, some of it directly facing the ocean, and some of it (as pictured here) facing a more protected tidal basin. The beach here draws all walks of life, from families and hetero couples to gay folks, and you can access the beach right from the center of Ogunquit (off of Beach Street - you'll find pay parking lots at end of street). The Ogunquit Trolley also makes stops here.
Glacier Trekking in Juneau
Among Juneau's myriad outdoors activities, visiting a glacier tops the list. The simplest way to do this is to drive out to the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center, which sits just 10 miles north of downtown. You can hike right on the glacier by booking a helicopter trip through Northstar Trekking. For a truly intensive glacier experience, opt for an all-day hike with Above & Beyond Alaska, whose friendly and knowledgeable guides will lead you up a trail alongside the glacier.
Hippie Hollow Park
Hippie Hollow is Austin's definitive gay beach, set along the rocky and scenic shores of Lake Travis. This is a fine place for (clothing-optional) sunbathing, mingling with friends or making new ones, or boating around the lake. You can take a break from the action at the nearby Oasis Restaurant, which sits high on a bluff overlooking all the action.
Michigan Womyn's Music Fest
A preview of the Michigan Womyn's Music Festival
Rainbow Station
One of a few shops along 8th Avenue selling (mostly gay) erotica, porn DVDs, underwear, lube, dildos, sex toys, novelties, and the like, Rainbow Station (207 8th Ave., 212-924-0591) is open 24/7 and competes with the long-running Unicorn as well as the Blue Store and Pride NYC. This one is well-stocked, and it's a bit less seedy-feeling than some of the smaller, darker spots with less prominent locations.
Big Ruby's Pool
The lagoon-inspired pool at the esteemed Big Ruby's Key West - there are few more attractive and lushly landscaped clothing-optional pools in town.

Hippie Hollow boats
Pleasure boats, often with the rainbow flag hoisted, are a common site at Austin's Hippie Hollow Park, the area's official nude beach and unofficial gay beach. Spring through fall, you'll typically see these boats tied up just offshore from the limestone cliffs surrounding Lake Travis.

Gay Bar Photos - Gay Nightlife Photos - Gay Nightlife Photo Gallery - Gay Lounge Photos - Gay Dance Club Photos - Gay Bar Photo Gallery
It look ever-so-slightly like the basement rec-room you might find lurking beneath a split-level ranch house in the suburbs, but - of course - way cooler and filled with cute and engaging gay guys (along with a few women). The cozy two-room spot has a plush little lounge area with sofas, and a tiny bar that seats just a few lounge lizards. There's good lighting (you can actually see the faces of the people around you), fun music playing, and always a friendly bartender. What's not to like?
Gay & Lesbian Travel - QuickTips

Stark Street
On the west side of downtown Portland, just off of West Burnside Street, Southwest Stark Street holds one of the city's small gay entertainment epicenters. Along here you'll find a number of gay bars and gay-friendly restaurants, including Scandals, the Portland Eagle (actually on Burnside, but just steps away), Red Cap Garage and Boxxes, Silverado, the Roxy Diner, and - pictured here - the Ace Hotel and Stumptown Coffee.
Casa Cupula, Puerto Vallarta
A review of Casa Cupula, a gay resort in the historic Zona Romantica neighborhood of Puerto Vallarta, Mexico.
Cannon Beach
Where do gay and lesbian Portlanders go when they're craving fun at ocean? The artsy, sophisticated, yet low-keyed towns of Cannon Beach and Manzanita are a couple of the most gay-popular destinations along Oregon's rugged and serene North Coast. You won't find any real "scene" out this way, but the many hotels and B&Bs in Cannon Beach are all pretty much gay-welcoming, as are the hip restaurants and cafes here and in Manzanita, 15 miles south.
San Vicente Inn - Resort
West Hollywood's only gay (and clothing-optional) men's resort, the secluded San Vicente Inn enjoys a central location right in the heart of the Santa Monica Boulevard gay bar and restaurant strip, and yet it's a peaceful, private hideaway with lush landscaping, beautiful grounds, and such social amenities as a 20-man steamroom and 10-man hot tub. A wide range of accommodations are available, and the rates here are quite reasonable considering the location and quality.
Lake Travis and Oasis
Limestone cliffs create a clothing-optional outdoor tanning salon at gay-popular Hippie Hollow Park, on the shores of Lake Travis, just west of Austin. In the distance, the fabulous Oasis Restaurant rises high atop even higher cliffs - this is a favorite place to enjoy potent drinks and somewhat mediocre Tex-Mex food (hey, you go for the view) before or after warming your buns at Hippie Hollow.
Parrot's Bar
In the unabashedly quaint and artsy seaside village of Sitges, which feels a bit like Spain's version of Provincetown, you'll find numerous gay bars and cafes, including the open-air patio bar Parrot's along with its cross-the-Plaza-Industria neighbor, Parrot's 2. The gay resort village of Sitges is just a 45-minute trian ride down the Mediterranean coast from the sophisticated and progressive city of Barcelona.
The Oxford Guest House
The former owners of the Beaconlight Guest House, Stephen Mascilo and Trevor Pinker now run the romantic, understatedly upscale Oxford Guest House, which is set along a quiet lane in Provincetown's West End.

Tulip Toy Gallery - Tulip Sex Shop - Tulip Halsted Street - lesbian sex shops - Tulip Andersonville - Chicago adult videos - Chicago gay sex shops
With the romantically old-fashioned name of Tulip, this woman-owned boutique on Halsted Street (there's also a branch in Andersonville) sells all kinds of gifts and toys that make lovin' fun - vibrators, dildos, lingerie, lube, books on tantric sex, harnesses, videos, and more. The helpful staff is happy to make suggestions and chat frankly and cheerfully about which cock ring might suit which occasion, or what to look for in pair of latex hot pants.
Man's Country Chicago - Man's Country bathhouse Andersonville - Chicago gay bathhouses - gay cruising in Chicago - Chicago sex clubs - Man's Country
Gay nightlife in Andersonville tends toward the leather and Levi's set, and a somewhat older, more bearish, and less attitude-y crowd than is typical in Lakeview bars, and this same general characterization applies to the neighborhood's gay bathhouse, Man's Country (5015 N. Clark St., 773-878-2069), which opened in the early 1970s and differs from some in this genre because of its famed gay strip shows on Friday and Saturday nights (often featuring guests from the gay porn industry).

Old Town Gay Bars
Although the many of Portland's gay bars are along the Southwest Stark Street strip, a 10-minute walk east toward the waterfront will lead you to Old Town, which has another cluster of fun Portland gay bars, including Darcelle XV, C.C. Slaughter's, Hobo's (also a very good restaurant), the Dirty Duck, and Fox & Hounds. Also in the vicinity is the fabulously quirky Voodoo Doughnuts, which is open 24/7.
Destination Gay Bar
A simple sign marks the entrance to Beijing's best gay bar, Destination, which contains several festive rooms and dance areas.
Valentino Prague - Valentino Gay Nightclub - Valentino Gay Bar - Prague gay nightlife pictures - Vinohrady gay nightlife - Valentino Star Bar Prague
In the increasingly gay Vinohrady neighborhood just east of the city center, Club Valentino has quickly become Prague's best overall gay disco and bar, comprising three floors with distinct lounge, dancing, and chatting areas (the larger Star Bar area, pictured here, is open only on Friday and Saturday nights, but the rest of the place is open nightly from 9 pm on). This is the heart of see-and-be-seen Prague, drawing a youthful, pretty crowd, but still entirely unpretentious.

Paradise dance club Boston - gay Cambridge nightlife - Boston gay strippers - gay erotic dancers Boston - Cambridge Massachusetts gay clubs - Shine
Cambridge may be the erudite neighbor of Boston, but it's also home to the cruisiest gay bar in the metro area, Paradise (180 Massachusetts Ave., 617-868-3000), a two-level space with toned and tiger-y male go-go dancers every night of the week. The downstairs area tends to be more about cruising, but there's gay porn showing late into the evening on both levels. The crowd is predictably social, and draws from a surprising range of ages, styles, and sensibilities.
Pride NYC
Pride NYC Inc. (165 8th Ave.) is a relative along Chelsea's 8th Avenue, which has seen a growth in gay sex and erotica stores in recent years (including Rainbow Station and the Blue Store, plus the famed Unicorn just off 8th Avenue). This shop beside Gym gay sports bar and just down from the Joyce Theater is notable for carrying the popular Pjur-brand personal lubricant as well as a very good selection of adult gay DVDs.

Klub Stella Prague - Prague gay bars - Vinohrady gay bars - Stella Bar Prague - gay Czech Republic nightlife - Gay Club Stella - gay Prague photos
The secret it out - the somewhat hard-to-find, highly discreet gay lounge Stella was named in 2007 as one of Out Magazine's 50 Greatest Gay Bars in the World. Will the acclaim ruin this quirky spot? Doubtful. Stella is just an easygoing, somewhat kitschy, and entirely offbeat gay hangout, drawing a discernibly eclectic bunch of lesbians and gay guys. Some nights it's more student-oriented, other nights it pulls in beefy tattooed bears - you just never know, and that's part of the fun.
Fenway Park
Opened in 1912 and renowned as one of America's, and Major League's Baseball's, truly iconic sports stadiums, Fenway Park is home to the Boston Red Sox and also the centerpiece of the Fenway neighborhood, which has gained considerable status over the years as a favorite gay-clubbing area. On the park's northern border, Landsdowne Street is lined with nightclubs and bars, including the longtime gay hangout, Avalon/Axis. And a couple of blocks south of the park you'll find Ramrod and Machine.

Along a strip of gay-oriented businesses on University Avenue in San Diego's Hillcrest neighborhood, Flicks gay video bar has long been a hub of gay schmoozing and socializing in this sunny and scenic city by the ocean. Flicks is a cozy space with the usual array of video monitors, a nice little patio seating area overlooking the busy sidewalk, and a variety of fun theme nights (comedy videos on Tuesdays, the "dating game" on Thursdays, a wet booty contest on Saturdays, karaoke on Sundays).

Hotel Indigo
Opened in fall 2007, the hip and swank Hotel Indigo Nashville West End (1719 West End Ave., 615-329-4200) has quickly become one of the city's favorite gay accommodations, in part because of its stylish rooms and in part because it's just a 10-minute walk to the several gay bars in the Church Street District (including Tribe, Blu, Play, and Blue Genes). Amenities at this friendly mid-rise boutique hotel include a well-equipped gym and a cafe serving Starbucks coffees and cocktails at night.
Sandcastles
As you stroll along Centro Puerto Vallarta's beachfront boardwalk, Malecon, note the many impressive displays of sandcastles - often the artists are out working on their fragile, intricate creations.
Club Termix Prague - Prague gay nightlife - Gay Prague travel - Prague nightlife photos - Prague gay photography - Club Termix gay bar - Termix Czech
In a fashionable section of Prague's increasing gay hub, the Vinohrady neighborhood, the intimate and friendly Club Termix occupies a narrow basement space beside the charming Bar and Books Corner Bar and Bistro (a nice option for a bite to eat before dropping in). Termix has a small bar, a compact dance floor, and a petite lounge in back with some cushy chairs - yes, it's a diminutive space, but what it lacks in size it makes up for in spirit, drawing an eclectic mix of gays and lesbians.
The Golden Gate Bridge

The Abbey West Hollywood
What began as a relatively modest gay coffeehouse several years ago, The Abbey has blossomed into one of West Hollywood's hottest hangouts, gay or straight. This elegant Spanish Mediterranean-style compound on North Roberston Boulevard (right next to Here Lounge) has lush landscaping, gurgling fountains, and plenty of patio seating. The kitchen turns out tasty and creative American fare, and the bar is a sophisticated venues for cocktails and hobnobbing with West Hollywood scenesters.

Hotel San Jose Austin
Transformed from an ordinary old-school motor court into one of the hippest small hotels in Texas, the swank yet reasonably priced Hotel San Jose is a favorite roost of artists, musicians, and scenesters. Built in 1939, the place received a stylish makeover in the '90s and has been a white-hot, eco-conscious gay-friendly Austin lodging choice ever since. The simplest rooms, with shared baths, run for under $100, while the Courtyard Suite (pictured here) run $330 and up.

Big Ruby's Key West
Part of the esteemed brand of intimate gay resorts with four distinguished international properties, Big Ruby's Key West ranks among the most professional, smartly furnished, and friendliest clothing-optional gay accommodations in Florida. The tropically landscaped complex comprising several airy buildings decorated in muted color schemes and filled with handy amenities is set along tiny quiet Appelrouth Lane, just off Duval Street and steps from several gay bars and gay-popular restaurants.
Atlantic Shores Site
As of August 2007, this is all that remained of the beloved Atlantic Shores Hotel, one of Key West's longest-running accommodations - it has been especially famous for its pool and deck overlooking the sea. Although the Atlantic Shores is no more, the property has been purchased by the gay-friendly Southernmost Hotel & Resorts group, which has five great properties in town (many of the Atlantic Shores former employees were hired by Southernmost as well).

Bikes lined up along the street, near salt marshes in the Herring Cove section of Cape Cod National Seashore, which forms the western and northern border of Provincetown.
Gay Austin - Oilcan Harry's
A description of one of Gay Austin's leading gay bars, Oilcan Harry's.
Bar Bofetada
To find the heart of Rio de Janeiro's compact but lively gay scene, head to the sexy and sophisticated Ipanema neighborhood and stroll along Rua Farme de Amoedo (Rio's so-called "gay street"), a couple of blocks from the gay beach, where you'll find a slew of gay-popular businesses, including hip Bar Bofetada (pictured here), Colher de Pau cafe, the Ipanema Plaza hotel (with its excellent restaurant), Galitos Grill, and Cafeina coffeehouse.
Spartacus Jupiter
Going strong since 1987, Portland's premier shop for sex toys, dildos, lingerie, costumes, leather gear, vibrators, Clone A Willy kits (also a Portland company, by the way), and sorts of other items for fun in the bedroom...or the living room...or on the dining room table. Spartacus welcomes everybody and has a big following in the gay community, although the majority of the clientele is hetero. The staff is typically fun and helpful, a departure from many surly Portland sex shops.
The Hollywood Hills
As viewed from the Beverly Center shopping mall, the Hollywood Hills form the steep northern boundary of West Hollywood.
Trunks West Hollywood
West Hollywood's traditional gay sports bar and also a genuinely friendly, low-attitude spot for cocktails, Trunks is at 8809 Santa Monica Boulevard, a short walk from several other gay bars in the area, such as Micky's, Rage, and East West Lounge.
French Quarter
A gay New Orleans shopping round-up, the French Quarter
Dudley's Charleston
Dudley's is a swish little lounge with attractive bar tables and stools and a welcoming bar with video screens above it. And just off the main room is a separate area where you can shoot pool. At both Dudley's and its neighbor, Club Pantheon, the crowd tends to be a catch-all of gay Charleston life: women and men of all ages and races, and quite a few straight customers, too. Dudley's, because it's quieter and more of a conversation bar, tends to draw a slightly older bunch.
Here Lounge
Run by the same folks who operate the similarly fabulous G Lounge in New York City's Chelsea neighborhood, the swank Here Lounge has become a gay clubbing fixture in West Hollywood over the years. It's right beside the white-hot Abbey gay lounge and coffeehouses, and around the corner from the old-school Mother Lode. Here has a successful flavor-of-the-week style, with different themes for different evenings.
Applewood Inn
A review of the Applewood Inn, a gay-friendly inn in the Guerneville, in the heart of the gay Russian River resort area.
Commercial Street at Night
Especially on weekends from May through October, Commercial Street comes alive with foot traffic - it's hard to think of another place on earth where you'll see more gays and lesbians walking around each evening. Commercial Street is the town's main thoroughfare, and it's lined with gay-friendly restaurants, shops, and inns.
Devon's Restaurant
Inside this intimate, unassuming building on the eastern side of downtown Provincetown (an area rich with art galleries), chef-owned Devon's is one of the best-kept dining secrets on the Cape. It's open for breakfast and dinner, and the food is innovative but uncomplicated. Don't miss this one.
Opryland Hotel
No, Nashville's famously huge Opryland Hotel Resort (2800 Opryland Dr., 615-889-1000) isn't exactly a gay mecca - this massive hot house of traditional American values appeals largely to conservative families and other red-state types. But the management is perfectly gay-friendly, and you'll see plenty of LGBT sorts working here, if not necessarily staying here. Moreover, it's a beautiful place, surprisingly tasteful given its Vegas-esque grandeur.
Chelsea Hotel
Steeped in a rich Bohemian history, the vaunted Chelsea Hotel (222 W. 23rd St., 212-243-3700) has been a fixture in this neighborhood since it opened (it was actually built as an apartment building in the 1880s and was NYC's tallest building until the end of the 19th century). Many famous guests have lived here, including queer beat poet Allen Ginsberg, and such diverse figures as Sid Vicious (of the Sex Pistols), who stabbed his girlfriend here to death, and Dylan Thomas.
Hydrate Chicago - Hydrate on Halsted gay bar - Manhole Chicago - gay Chicago dance clubs - gay discos in Boystown - Hydrate Lakeview gay nightclub
Occupying the site of the long-running (and infamously raucous) Manhole club, the somewhat more eclectic but still quite cruisy Hydrate dance club (3458 N. Halsted St., 773-975-9244) has earned a loyal following for its imaginative theme nights (such as the Hydrag Revue on Wednesday nights, and occasional lube-wrestling competitions). Mostly, though, it's just a pounding and pulsing place to dance to some of the best music in the neighborhood and check out hot and shirtless patrons.
Oxford Hotel, Sydney
The quintessential leather-and-bear cruise bar on busy Oxford Street in the Darlinghurst section of Sydney, the Oxford Hotel has undergone a natty makeover since I snapped this photo and visited in 2005. Still, it's basically a laid-back, friendly spot drawing a somewhat rough-and-tumble bunch of regular guys, mostly in theirs 30s to 50s. The Oxford Hotel (134 Oxford St., 9331-3467) is right in the heart of Sydney's main gay nightlife hub, close to Stonewall, the Colombian, Midnight Shift, etc.
Escafe
A popular, friendly hangout in the progressive and gay-friendly Virginia college town of Charlottesville, Escafe is a first-rate contemporary American restaurant during the day and early evening, before shifting into one of this small city's few gay bars in the evening. It's along Charlottesville's historic Downtown Mall, across from the Omni Hotel, and within a short walk of numerous shops and restaurants.

A listing of Gay Pride festivals that take place in the month of July.
Voodoo Doughnuts
Voodoo Doughnuts are not only delicious, they're good for you! Okay, that last part is an utter fabrication, although the sinfully weird and wonderful donuts produced by this 24-hour Old Town Portland doughnuttery are produced using zero-trans-fat oil. I just tell myself this everytime I eat a handful of them. In truth, these sugary, high-calorie confections don't quite qualify as health food, but at 3 in the morning, they're a revelation.
Prudential Tower
Visible from throughout metro Boston, the iconic Prudential Tower rises 52 stories and is crowned by the popular Prudential Skywalk observation deck, which affords fantastic views of the city and surrounding countryside. Built in the early 1960s, "the Pru" contains offices and rather lacks when it comes to aesthetics - it's a boxy, somewhat grim icon of the era in which it was constructed. The adjacent Shops at Prudential Center contain more than 75 stores, and Copley Place Mall is next door.
Overseas Highway through Keys
Some people love it, some people hate it, but most agree that the drive along the Overseas Highway (i.e., U.S. 1) from the South Florida mainland to Key West is like no other road they've ever traveled. Key West has a great airport with regular flights on gay-friendly Cape Air and other airlines to Miami and elsewhere, and you definitely don't need a car once you're in Key West. But driving this 105-mile route (from Key Largo to Key West) reveals plenty of breathtaking views of the water.
Telluride Skiing
Home to Telluride Gay Ski Week during the last week of February and first week of March, breathtaking Telluride Ski Resort rises sharply above the historic village for which it is named. This challenging mountain with 84 runs and a 3,500-foot vertical drop (highest point is 12,255 feet) is one of western Colorado's world-class facilities. And it's in a laid-back, upscale, gay-friendly town with a number of stellar restaurants, inns, and shops.
Market Pavilion Hotel
A review of the Market Pavilion Hotel, a gay-friendly boutique hotel in historic Charleston, South Carolina.
Barnacle Billy's
In touristy but fun Perkins Cove, on the south side of Ogunquit and not far from the Ogunquit Museum of Art, Barnacle Billy's is one of the town's most famous restaurants. The casual seafood restaurant with a spacious and sunny dining room as well as extensive deck seating overlooking Perkins Cove's boat-studded harbor serves reliable seafood standards, such as lobster rolls, steamed lobster with drawn butter, bacon-wrapped scallops, and broiled fish and shellfish dinners.
