The Bottom Line
**NOTE: Deborah closed in 2008** A narrow storefront steps from the heart of Greenwich Village but on a deceptively quiet side street, Deborah is a genuine neighborhood restaurant serving grown-up food at extremely fair - by NYC standards - prices. It's open late as well as for lunch...as well as for brunch, and it's also a perfect little venue for coffee and dessert, or perhaps wine and an appetizer. It's a perfect date venue - quiet, intimate, sophisticated, swanky, and serving fabulous food.
Pros
  • intimate, warmly lighted space that's equally romantic and casual
  • fun staff
  • highly creative but not contrived food
  • ample use of local and seasonal ingredients (including lots of organics)
  • nice wine list
Cons
  • it's cozy - might be tough to fit a party of more than four in here
Description
  • In the heart of the West Village, a few blocks southwest of Washington Square and south of Sheridan Square
  • 43 Carmine St. (between Bedford and Bleecker Sts.), 212-242-2606
  • Open Tues.-Sun. for lunch and dinner (as well as weekend brunch)
  • Dinner entrees range from about $16 to $24
  • Plenty of desserts, coffees, wines, and such, making it a nice spot for a snack or a full meal
