Checking Out New England's Hottest Gay Ski Week

Although the majority of North America's gay ski weeks take place in the West (think Aspen, Park City, Whistler), the charming and picturesque town of Stowe, Vermont has been hosting its own increasingly popular gay ski gathering for more than two decades. Winter Rendezvous takes place over four days in late January and early February (Jan. 20 through 24 in 2010).

This year's Winter Rendezvous XXV is the 25th anniversary of the event, so it's expected to be a particularly enthusiastic and spirited celebration. In addition to downhill skiing and snowboarding, the festival features plenty of other outdoorsy activities, including snowshoeing and dog-sledding. Plus there are the social goings-on - parties, social mixers, dances, and entertainment. There will be a special concert this year performed by the esteemed Boston Gay Men's Chorus; other entertainment includes a the Michael Swenson Comedy Hypnosis Show, and music by DJs Dave G and Ryan Grow.

Stowe gay ski week's official host hotel is the Commodores Inn (823 S. Main St.), a mid-priced, comfy, but rather prosaic place with a convenient location in Lower Village. Other properties in town offering special lodging deals during Winter Rendezvous XXV include the Stowe Motel & Snowdrift Inn (an excellent value with nice room), the Arbor Inn B&B, and the 10-room Timberholm B&B, a romantic and handsomely decorated option that your best bet if you plan to spend much time in your room.
