Although it's not quite as famous as Colorado's other big gay ski festivals, Aspen Gay Ski Week and Telluride Gay Ski Week, the emerging Vail Gay & Lesbian Ski Week has been picking up increased traction over the years. It takes place in 2010 from January 27 through January 31, and it's organized by Rocky Mountain Vacation Rentals.
Vail Valley comprises a cluster of popular gay ski resort towns in the Rockies, all convenient to I-70, which connects the region to Denver. The towns include Vail itself along with Avon, Eagle, Minturn, Edwards, and Beaver Creek. The Vail Gay & Lesbian Ski Week events are focused chiefly on the facilities at Vail and Beaver Creek.
Events at Vail Gay Ski Week 2010 were still being planned as of this writing, but details will be posted here as they become available. Festivities will include apres-ski socials, an big opening-night celebration, late-night partying opportunities, group ski days at Vail, GLBT Awareness Rally, scavenger hunt, pancake breakfast, drag contest, '80s party, Angel Wings Benefit Dinner, closing celebration, and plenty more to keep you busy. Special lodging rates have been arranged at several properties in Vail, including the official host hotel of Vail Ski Week, the Vail Plaza Hotel, as well as the Holiday Inn Apex Vail, Sitzmark Lodge, Tivoli Lodge, Lodge Tower, and a variety of private condo and home rentals available through the event organizers.
