Warsaw, Poland - which has taken great risks in holding a Gay Pride event in recent years because of order not to do so from homophobic former mayor of Warsaw and current president of Poland, Lech Kaczynski - hosted EuroPride not long ago (it takes place in Marseille in 2013. This was an especially exciting and crucial moment for GLBT rights not only in Poland but in Eastern Europe more broadly, and the large turnout helped shed light on gay and lesbian issues in this somewhat conservative country. Warsaw Gay Pride takes place in mid-June - the date for 2013 is Saturday, June 15.
