Canada's capital city Ottawa first began holding a Gay Pride event in 1986. Since that time, what began as a modest one-day gathering has evolved into a full week of Pride-related events, culminating in a festival and parade, and attracting thousands of participants and spectators. Ottawa's Capital Gay Pride takes place over 10 days in late August - in 2013 the event runs from August 16 through August 25.

A number of meetings, parties, and events take place during the week preceding the main Capital Gay Pride weekend. These include an Official Opening Party, the Miss Capital Pride Pageant, Ottawa Knights Leather Brunch, the Mardi Gras in August party, and more - check out the detailed list here.
Additionally, bars and nightclubs as well as gay-popular restaurants, hotels, and shops have special events and parties throughout Pride Weekend.
