The largest city in the state, Oklahoma City has a large and quite visible gay community - in this otherwise very conservative state, this is the city with the most gay bars and gay-owned businesses. It's also home to the well-attended Oklahoma Gay Pride Festival and Parade, which returns to its traditional mid-June schedule this year - the dates are June 20 through June 22, 2014, with events centered on the city's famed GLBT nightlife and business district, "the Strip," at NW 39th Street and N Pennsylvania Avenue. More specifics on this year's festival will be posted here as information becomes available - check the official Oklahoma City Gay Pride calendar for more details.
Gay Pride had recently been held in May when the city also hosts the Oklahoma Gay Rodeo Association's Great Plains Rodeo, which is held over Memorial Day weekend (May 23 to May 25, 2014).
Many gay-popular restaurants, hotels, and shops cater heavily to LGBT visitors during this time.
