France's second-largest city, the Mediterranean coastal metropolis of Marseille, enjoys a great honor in 2013 - this spicy port city and atmospheric capital of the Provence, Alpes, Cote d'Azur region is hosting the famed continental LGBT celebration, EuroPride 2013, which is taking place over 10 days in mid-July. The dates this year are July 10 to July 20, 2013.
EuroPride has continued to grow in popularity over the years, having formed in 1992 and taken place most recently in London (2012), Rome (2011), Warsaw (2010), and Zurich (2009). In upcoming years, EuroPride will be held in Oslo in 2014, Riga in 2015, and Madrid in 2017 (the 2016 host city has yet to be announced, as of this writing).
The city's renowned Dock des Suds is at the heart of nightly festivities, hosting parties each day of Pride. There's also an "off festival," which will include events throughout the city and region. Other activities will revolve around sporting events, concerts, art exhibitions, beach outings, with the main events occurring at a special Gay Village. Here's a full list of events.
Marseille will be quite the gay destination during EuroPride, with bars, restaurants, hotels, and shops in the area expected to be at full capacity with GLBT visitors.
