In the progressive and very gay-friendly university city of Madison, the region's vibrant LGBT community celebrates Wisconsin Capitol Pride over a weekend in mid- to late August. The dates of Wisconsin Capitol Gay Pride will be August 17 through August 18, 2013.
Note the event is officially called Wisconsin Capitol Pride, and although it is the annual gay pride event for Madison, it is in no way related to the city's former such event, which was run by Madison Pride (which dissolved several years ago).
Madison's main gay pride celebration takes place on Sunday, August 18 - here's a full calendar of events, with details on everything from a fundraising Throwback to the Magic Pride picnic (from 1 until 6 pm) to a "Say I Do" Pride Picnic Commitment and Vow Renewal Ceremony (at 2 pm), all held at Brittingham Park.
Numerous gay bars as well as gay-popular restaurants, hotels, and shops have special events and parties throughout Pride Week. Check local gay papers, such as Quest for details. Also take a look at the excellent travel site produced by the city's official tourism organization, the Greater Madison CVB.
