Gay Pride takes on an especially festive, friendly tone in the iconic gay resort community of Key West. It's one of the several colorful GLBT events planned throughout the year - from Gay Spring Break in late winter to Womenfest in early September - by the tropical island's Key West Business Guild, and it takes place each year over five days in early June. The dates of Key West Gay Pride this year are June 11 through June 15, 2014.
Last year's events were as follows (more about this year's Pride will be posted here as information is released):
Key West Pride comprises several notable events (here's a calendar), including a kick-off party on Wednesday at the legendary Island House gay resort, a gay film festival and AIDS fundraiser, a Pride Happy Hour at the lovely Big Ruby's gay resort on Friday, and an appearances by the fab band the Kinsey Sicks.
Saturday is also the day of the Key West Gay Pride Street Fair, held from 10 am until 7 pm along the 700 and 800 block of Duval Street, and the following day, Sunday, you can watch the Key West Gay Pride Parade as it rolls down historic Duval Street, with its lively gay bars, between 5 and 7 pm.
Additionally, numerous Key West gay bars as well as gay-popular restaurants, hotels and gay resorts and shops have special events and parties throughout Pride Week - see the Gay Guide and Gallery to Key West for more on the local gay scene. Also take a look at the excellent site produced by the city's official gay tourism organization, the Key West Business Guild, as well as Florida Keys travel site, produced by the Monroe County Tourist Development Council, for general travel advice on visiting the region.
