One of a few Gay Pride celebrations that take place in the Southeast during the month of September (others include South Carolina Pride in Columbia and Virginia Pride in Richmond), North Carolina Gay Pride takes place on the campus of prestigious Duke University, in the historic city of Durham (part of the Research Triangle, and one of North Carolina's more liberal-leaning regions), as well as in the capital city of Raleigh and the liberal university town of Chapel Hill. The official day of celebration is Saturday, September 28, 2013.

Note that Raleigh hosts its own Gay Pride event, Out Raleigh Gay Pride, in early May - the date this year is May 4, 2013.

More than 7,000 people are expected to attend this year's festival, which includes a Pride Parade (in Durham on Saturday at 1 pm), a Daytime Pride Festival with music and entertainment (held at Duke East Campus on Saturday, from 10 until 5), the Raleigh Nightfest and Embrace Party (held along downtown Hargett Street from 6 pm until 4 am), Durham "Pride at Night" parties, and lots more. Here's a full calendar of North Carolina Pride events, which take place over several days.

Additionally, numerous bars as well as gay-popular restaurants, hotels, and shops have special events and parties throughout Pride Weekend. And all three of the key cities that make up the Research Triangle have special Pride deals at certain gay-friendly hotels. Check the handy GLBT Triangle Local Events website and Q Notes gay newspaper for details. Also be sure to check out the excellent GLBT website created by the Greater Raleigh Convention and Visitors Bureau, which has information on gay-friendly businesses, accommodations, and events in the region.
