One of a few Gay Pride celebrations that take place in the Southeast during the month of September (others include South Carolina Pride in Columbia and Pride in the Park in Roanoke, VA), North Carolina Gay Pride takes place on the campus of prestigious Duke University, in the historic city of Durham (part of the Research Triangle, and one of North Carolina's more liberal-leaning regions), as well as in the capital city of Raleigh. The official day of celebration is Saturday, September 26, 2009.

Additionally, numerous bars as well as gay-popular restaurants, hotels, and shops have special events and parties throughout Pride Weekend. And all three of the key cities that make up the Research Triangle have special Pride deals at certain gay-friendly hotels. Check the handy GLBT Triangle Local Events website, as well as the South's definitive GLBT paper, Southern Voice, for details. Also be sure to check out the excellent GLBT website created by the Greater Raleigh Convention and Visitors Bureau, which has information on gay-friendly businesses, accommodations, and events in the region.
