Cardiff, the largest city and the capital of country of Wales, has a population of about 350,000 and a pleasant setting on Bristol Channel. At the end of August and into the first week of September, the city hosts Cardiff Wales LGBT Mardi Gras, which is a combination of a gay arts and cultural festival and a Gay Pride event. The dates this year are August 24 to August 31, 2013 - that last day is the big event, LGBT Mardi Gras day, and it takes place in a brand-new venue this year, the stunning Millennium Stadium.
Cardiff Gay Mardi Gras consists of about a week of parties and events, from concerts and cabaret to a concert by the Southern Wales Gay Men's Chorus and some high-energy dance parties. The Cardiff LGBT Mardi Gras Main Event takes place on Saturday, August 31, in Millennium Stadium, and consists of a stage with live performers, drag cabaret, fair rides, a dance arena, and a market with exhibitors and vendors.
Additionally, gay-popular bars, restaurants, hotels, and shops in the area have more going on than usual during Pride week.
