Bernal Heights Park, looking toward downtown San Francisco

Bernal Heights Park, looking toward downtown San Francisco

A look toward downtown San Francisco from the funky and rather GLBT-popular neighborhood of Bernal Heights. This photo is taken from Bernal Heights Park, a mostly bald twin-peaked promontory that forms the neighborhood's northern boundary (here's an aerial view). Walk a couple of blocks south, and you'll find Cortland Avenue, which is lined with offbeat, slighly hipster-esque cafes, shops, and neighborhood businesses. To reach Bernal Heights Park from downtown, you have a few options, but it's easiest to head south on Mission Street, turn left (east) onto Cortland, and then turn left onto Anderson Street and follow it to the park, where you'll find a path to the very top.
