One of the relatively younger gay bars in Portland, both in clientele and in how long it's been open,
Casey's PDX (610 N.W. Couch St., 503-505-9468) has several things going for it: super-friendly and fun bartenders, a no-attitude vibe, and a great location in Old Town and Chinatown that's just across a block beyond Burnside from downtown and just a couple of blocks east of the trendy Pearl District. If you're migrating between the
Stark Street gay bars and the
Old Town gay clubs along 3rd Avenue, Casey's is a perfect stopover, as it's between these two areas.
Casey's has a good selection of bar diversions, from pool to Wii to a rockin' juke box. There's karaoke on Wednesday nights, and the crowd tends toward a genuine mix of styles, ages, and tastes, welcoming both gay men and lesbians - and if you're not sure what kind of crowd you'll find inside, you can get a good look through the tall windows lining the facade. It's really a classic gay neighborhood bar.
