Towering high above the Back Bay on one side, and Boston's gayest neighborhood, the South End, on the other, the I.M.-Pei-designed John Hancock Tower is one of New England's most recognizable buildings. Adjacent to the tower is historic Trinity Church, designed in 1877 by Henry Hobson Richardson (the father of the Richardsonian Romanesque style) - this Episcopal church is one of the nation's most gay-welcoming churches.
