Rainbow Cattle Company, Guerneville, California

Since 1979, the rakish and rugged Rainbow Cattle Company (16220 Main St., Guerneville, 707-869-0206) has been a fixture on the Wild West main drag of Guerneville, in the heart of the Russian River area of western Sonoma County. Plenty of other gay bars in this low-keyed, beautifully situated vacation community have come and gone over the years, but this no-attitude saloon has maintained its reputation as a fun place to hobnob, cruise, and people-watch. It's especially popular with bears, cubs, leather dudes, and the like, but all are welcome, regardless of gender or style - just don't wander in here with any big-city pretensions. The drinks are cheap, and the staff is loads of fun.
