For years the Gentry on Halsted (pictured here shortly before it closed), a Lakeview sister to the dapper Gentry gay bar downtown, entertained the suits crowd with piano cabaret and a relaxed, low-keyed atmosphere. In 2007, Gentry closed, but most gay-bar-hoppers have been thrilled with its transformation into Scarlet (3320 N. Halsted St., 773-348-1053), a cosmopolitan, upscale gay lounge known for its dandy drink specials and sleek decor. Other low-attitude, fun hangouts in the neighborhood include Little Jim's, Kit Kat Lounge, and The Closet.
