A mellow gay neighborhood bar on the north side of Gainesville, about 3 miles north of downtown and northeast of University of Florida campus, Wild Angels-Spikes (4130 N.W. 6th St., 352-376-3772) caters more to older men, bears, leather daddies, and locals than the city's more collegiate-oriented gay nightspot, the University Club. The unassuming bar has occasional drag shows and is a reliable bet for inexpensive cocktails ad beer. It's also refreshingly free of attitude.
