Atlantic House (15 Mechanic St.), aka "A House", is one of the longest-running gay bars in Provincetown. This rambling old bar actually comprises three distinct spaces: the cozy Little Bar (with a fireplace and a cruisy, friendly vibe), the not-ironically named Macho Bar (think leather guys, bears, and admirers), and the Dance Club, which is a spacious nightclub with the usual DJ-dance action. If you're checking out the club scene in Provincetown, you really don't want to miss the venerable club was a bar in the 1920s and '30s frequented by the town's literary elite (Tennessee Williams, Eugene O'Neill). At that time, A House had a rather bohemian vibe, and by the 1950s, it had developed something of a gay scene, which at this time in America was highly unusual. It's been a definite gay summer party spot ever since, and a very fun place to for locals and visitors to mingle and people-watch.
