Honolulu's LGBT community has quickly taken to Bacchus Waikiki
(408 Lewers St., at corner of Kuhio Ave., 808-926-4167), a casually elegant gay bar with an emphasis on wines by the glass as well as premium cocktails and beer. It's just a block from the cozy In Between
gay neighborhood lounge, which has the same owner, and also very close to Fusion and LoJax, two popular gay bars
just a couple of blocks away on Kuhio, as well as the gay-popular Tapas restaurant and bar. Bacchus is also partly operated by the owner of the welcoming San Francisco gay nightspot, 440 Castro
Bacchus is a fun, friendly little spot with a cozy side bar decked with inviting couches (and decorated with a wall of wine bottles), a main bar, and a narrow lanai with rail seating overlooking Lewers and Kuhio. The bar is on the second level level, and it shares a lanai as well as a bathroom with Siam Square Thai restaurant. Bacchus serves a nice range of wines (and the pours are quite generous), and the intimate, classy vibe has made it popular not just with the gay community but with local friends and allies as well. It's a great addition to Honolulu's GLBT scene.
