Although it's part of Hilton's ubiquitous Doubletree brand, downtown Denver's playful Curtis Hotel has long stood out for its whimsical design and pop-culture-inspiration (including floors where rooms are designed with "Big Hair", "The Dance Floor", "TV Mania", and other amusing themes).
The property is also very popular with gay and lesbian guests, and over Valentine's Day weekend (Feb. 14 through 16) this year, the Curtis is offering a fun package deal that may be of particular interest to the LGBT market: Book the "Ellen & Portia" deal, with rates starting at $174 nightly, and your room will come complete with a tray of blondies, a bottle of California red wine, a "Now, That's What I Call Dance" CD (encouraging you to hold your own in-room dance party), and - brace yourself - two blonde wigs (one long, the other short). Here's where you can book this deal online.
I'm not entirely convinced that lesbians will necessarily be any more likely to book this deal than gay men - seems like the camp value of this package could appeal equally to both demographics. For that matter, the Curtis has two other packages of V-Day that I could envision just as easily capturing the interest of the gay market. There's the "Brangelina" (comes with a DVD of Mr. & Mrs. Smith, decadent French cheese and Madeleine cookies, a bottle of French wine, and a baby doll (with diapers, of course). Or you can go old-school with the "John & Yoko" - guests who book this receive a $10 iTunes gift card, two Beatle-tini cocktails, chocolate-covered "strawberry fields forever," and a package of wasabi peas with a tag that reads "All we are saying, is give peas a chance." Ok, so these promotions fall somewhere between corny and cheesy - I give the Curtis team full credit, however, for developing deals with offbeat appeal.

And take note that Denver Gay Pride has released its dates for 2013 (June 15 and 16). This has become one of the country's larger Pride events, and it's also a beautiful time of year to be in Denver.
