More of the world's Gay Pride celebrations take place in June than any other month, and quite a few cities hold their events this weekend, June 2 and 3. Here's a full calendar of Pride Festivals and Parades held throughout the month in June. Additionally, I've written some previews about a number of these events, detailing top entertainment performers, times and locations of Pride events, and additional resources on visiting these destinations during Pride.
One of the largest cities that holds its Pride this weekend is Detroit, whose Motor City Pride takes place on the downtown riverfront and features Kimberly Cole, Jessica Sutta, and Dave Aude.
The New York City Borough of Queens holds Pride celebration on Sunday, June 3, in Jackson Heights - it's a great way to get into the mood for all of the big celebrations held in Gotham this month, including Brooklyn Pride a week later, on June 9, and the world-famous New York City Gay Pride in Manhattan, the week of June 17 to June 24.
The bustling capital city of Mexico holds its Marcha del Orgullo Lésbico, Gay, Bisexual, Transgénero, Travesti, Transexual e intersexual on June 2, at the soaring "Angel of Independence" victory column in Zona Rosa.
Quite a few major pop stars will be revving up the crowds at Pride parties this weekend. At Kansas City Gay Pride, a host of top talents will be performing, including Jennifer Holiday, Inaya Day, Karmin, Pepper MaShay, Robin S, Cazwell, and Summer Osbourne. Pop star Deborah Cox and popular lesbian rappers God-Des & She are headlining Jersey Pride is the festive seaside town of Asbury Park on June 3, and screenwriter Dustin Lance Black along with singers Kristine W are helping the residents of Salt Lake City celebrate Utah Pride this weekend.
Other June 2-3 Prides of note include Birmingham (UK), http://gaytravel.about.com/od/previewsofpridefestivals/qt/Buffalo-Gay-Pride.htm (NY), Fresno (CA), Honolulu (HI), Riga (Baltic Pride in Latvia), New Paltz and Kingston (in the Hudson River Valley of New York), Sacramento (CA), Santa Cruz (CA), Sheffield (UK), Sonoma County and the Russian River (CA), and Winnipeg (Manitoba).
Of course, plenty of LGBT folks are partying together this weekend at a different kind of event: In Orlando, Florida, Gay Days at Disney is in full swing, drawing thousands of participants this year.
