NYC, San Francisco, Seattle, Chicago, and Other Celebrate 40th Anniversary of Stonewall

This weekend is the Mother of all Gay Pride Weekends, as numerous cities around the world are holding Gay Pride Fesivals and Parades in commemoration of the Stonewall Riots, which happened exactly 40 years ago (June 27, 1969). I was in San Francisco for the gay pride week and it was an exciting one – went to a few films at the gay and lesbian film festival too, then to Pink Saturday which is an ever growing and huge multi-block party with oh it must have been upwards of 50,000 easily come and gone all night, several stages with dancing and entertainment. there was the Dyke march starting at Dolores park earlier that Saturday, always a high energy and political affair; and on Friday night was the transgender march which this year changed course and went through the Mission district as this is where many transgender people live and congregate (and also get harassed). the whole weekedn is a great treat.
then of course the main course, the gay day parade which goes on for 3-4 hours, and celebration at City Hall area after that, made additionally significant this year to be me with the 40th anniversay of the stonewall riots being the main theme, and the movie ‘Milk’
