Fort Lauderdale vs. Palm Springs and West Hollywood: Where to Plan a Gay Spring Fling

Tuesday April 22, 2008

Fort Lauderdale is laced with canals and waterways; photo by Andrew CollinsThey're arguably America's premier gay-resort getaways: Fort Lauderdale and Palm Springs. So what are the key differences between these two havens of cruisy, clothing-optional men's resorts, boutiques selling the latest $60 skimpy swim trunks, queer bars pulsing well past the midnight hour, and see-and-be-seen cafes and bistros? A reader e-mailed me the other day asking for advice on choosing between these two areas (specifically, he was debating between West Hollywood/Palm Springs versus Fort Lauderdale) in planning the ultimate gay resort getaway, and here's what I had to say on the topic. (And by all means, keep sending me letters!)

Additionally, check out my gay guides to West Hollywood and Palm Springs, my West Hollywood gay photo gallery, and my several stories on planning a gay vacation in Fort Lauderdale. I've also created a "best of" list of gay resorts in Palm Springs, and I'll soon be creating a similar article on Fort Lauderdale. Happy spring vacation planning!

I will be visiting Miami, Ft Laud, and Key West sometime over the summer, and would like to know some nice places to go which cater primarily to lesbians. I am older and single- and would like to make some friends while there. Thanks for the info!
