San Francisco and Southwest Airlines Work Together to Promote Gay Tourism
The San Francisco Convention & Visitors Bureau, already a beacon of gay-friendly tourism, recently announced a gay marketing initiative with one of the country's most cost-effective and efficient air carriers, Southwest Airlines. This comes on the heals of the airline developing a gay travel page in May 2007 - it's a great resource, incidentally, with articles on gay-popular destinations, information on the company's support of the gay community (and its gay employees), and listings of upcoming gay events in cities served by Southwest. The airline, which serves dozens of popular cities around the country, has long served Oakland and San Jose, but last year the company added direct flights to San Francisco International Airport, making it that much easier to fly the airline right into the city. The San Francisco CVB's website is also a great font of info on gay travel to the city - check out CVB's OnlyinSanFrancisco.com microsite, which highlights events and gay-friendly businesses in the city.
You can check out my profile of Southwest Airlines to get more of a sense of where this company flies and how it's become an increasing friend to gay and lesbian travelers.
