Gay Atlanta: A City of Hip, Vibrant Neighborhoods

Monday March 5, 2007
The romantic, gay-friendly King-Keith House B&B, one of the many ornate I've just returned from a short visit to Atlanta, a city I resided in briefly in the early 1990s. It's changed tremendously in recent years, and just about everybody I talked to told me about a favorite new neighborhood they're hanging out in - such as Castleberry Hill on the west side of downtown, and Kirkwood, in historic East Atlanta (not far from lesbian-popular Decatur).

One area that was already becoming quite inviting back in the '90s but that has skyrockted in popularity in recent years is Inman Park, which includes the funky Little Five Points retail and dining district at its northeast edge. Many gay visitors to Atlanta never make it past the hub of the city's GLBT life, Midtown. But do yourself a favor and check out this neighborhood of restored Victorian homes and independent-spirited cafes and shops.

Here's my primer on Inman Park and Little Five Points, along with a short article on the gay-friendly King-Keith House B&B, which occupies one of the neighborhood's most stunning buildings. Also be sure to take a look at my Guide to Gay Savannah - that city is within a 3.5-hour drive of Atlanta and makes for a perfect weekend getaway.
